Use the Director to travel to Nessus and find Cayde-6.
ARTIFACT’S EDGE, ARCADIAN VALLEY
No one’s heard from Cayde-6 since the Hunter took off for an uncharted world. Track him down.

Ghost: Commander Zavala needs the Vanguard united again. While he prepares for the assault on the Almighty, we’re going to find Cayde and Ikora. Luckily, we picked up an odd signal from Cayde’s Ghost. It’s being boosted somehow from a centaur called Nessus. Which is strange. Centaurs are really just big rocks in the outer reaches of the solar system. There should be nothing there. So much for nothing being here. Let’s get to high ground so I can pin down Cayde’s location.
NEW MISSION: LOOPED
Nessus, Unstable Centaur
Ghost: Here we go. Tracking Cayde’s signal now. I think I’m getting something!
Cayde-6: In over my head… Vex trap… Failsafe?
Ghost: VEX TRAP?! What is Cayde getting us into this time? Something around here is blasting that signal into space. We find that something, we’ll find Cayde.
- Find Cayde-6: Investigate the source of Cayde-6’s signal.
Note: Open the Ghost by pressing TAB. Jump down inside the portal chute.
Then head toward the starship wreckage.
Ghost: There! The signal is coming from that wrecked ship!
NOTE: When you reach the top of the ship, press (E) to Scan Signal.
Failsafe: Hello! Are you here to rescue the Cayde-6?
Ghost: Whoa! You’re not Cayde!
Failsafe: The Cayde-6 is currently caught in a teleportation loop. He’s over there. Now he’s over THERE. Oop!
Ghost: He is moving? Well that’s… complicated.
Failsafe: I can help you! But I’m going to be super unpleasant about it.
Ghost: I’m sorry– what?
Failsafe: I have uploaded his new coordinates to you! Against my better judgment.
Ghost: Uh… OK…?
NOTE: Turn around toward the direction you you came from. Press TAB to summon the Ghost. Move toward the diamond mark.
Failsafe: May I help you with anything else?
Ghost: Yeah… are you OK? You sound a little… off.
Failsafe: I am the Exodus Black’s failsafe. Call me Failsafe! I boosted the Cayde-6’s signal in hopes he would be rescued. And look! Here you are!
Location: Hallows, Nessus
Ghost: Oh, I see! She’s just an AI. A malfunctioning AI.
Failsafe: I heard that. At your service!
Ghost: Centaurs are supposed to be just giant icy rocks. How did all this happen?
Failsafe: A robotic alien entity called the Vex have achieved 92.014 percent conversion of the Centaur Nessus.
NOTE: Go down the massive hole on the ground. There are stairs going down, or just jump down, and jump again before landing to slow your descent.
Cayde-6: Someone there? Listen, don’t ask me how this happened– I don’t have time to explain what I don’t have time to understand.
Failsafe: Warning! The Vex will vaporize you!
NOTE: An event starts. Take cover behind the cubes around the Hallows zone. Several enemy units teleport in. Around 18 Goblins, then a Minotaur (elite). Pierce its shield, then you can shoot him in the head, and melee when able.
A second wave starts teleporting in. It might be a good idea to run back some distance so they take longer to reach you, and snipe them from behind the obstacles as they approach. There are 8 Goblins and two Minotaur. You can also go above the large obstacle in the center to shoot from high ground. At the top there is a wall that helps to block enemy fire. They don’t chase you in melee range up there.
If you have a Bazooka, you can take them out with one shot when their shield is down.
Ghost: So, Failsafe. What exactly happened here?
Failsafe: The Cayde-6 attempted to manipulate the Vex portal system. He is now trapped in a nonlinear loop. In my defense, I tried to warn him. He’s, like, not that smart.
Ghost: This is NOT going well.
NOTE: Move to your new destination toward the diamond mark after pressing TAB.
That path leads you toward the Sunken Cavern.
Location: Sunken Cavern
Ghost: How long have you been here, exactly?
Failsafe: Long enough to see the Vex convert this entire planetoid, kill all living organisms, reformat molecules, and digitize brain waves for further study. It’s a fascinating process!
Ghost: She sounds way too excited about that.
- Head to the coordinates Failsafe provided to find Cayde-6.
NOTE: You will reach a deadend into an abyss. To the right, there is a path you can jump down to. You need to jump to the platform across the abyss.
When you reach the lower platform, to your right you will see ledges on the wall. I marked the platforms you need to jump to as 1, 2, 3 and 4. You can use SPRINT, then jump, and as you float forward, make another jump in mid-air to extend and slow your descent.
This new area has several enemies. Take cover, and focus on shooting the four Hobgoblins that are sniping you from high ground. You will notice their red lasers. Sometimes the Hobgoblins might flare up in bright red fire. That’s their immunity shield and they heal to full health. Take cover while they are immune, then try again. Then take out the Goblins scattered around the lower ground. Eventually, a minotaur comes out to play as well.
NOTE: Once all enemy units die, Failsafe will begin a new dialogue.
Failsafe: You are good at destroying the Vex! Much better than my crew was!
Ghost: I’m almost afraid to ask, but… Failsafe, what happened to the Exodus Black crew?
Failsafe: Only my captain can access those memories! And he’s super dead.
NOTE: Move toward the edge facing the abyss. On the far left, down you will see another platform with a triangular doorway. Try to jump on the circle. Use SPRINT, then jump. Mid air, jump again to extend and slow your descent.
NOTE: Going through the triangular doorway leads to a short hollow area. You will notice the bright blue light by the circular doorway below and a stairs. Move to your left along the wall to reach those stairs. The bright blue light is a teleportation gate.
Failsafe: Cayde-6 is just beyond that Vex Gate. Please proceed.
Ghost: Won’t we get stuck like Cayde?
Failsafe: Oh, no. My judgment module is much more reliable than the Cayde Unit’s.
NOTE: Walk through the gate.
It teleports you to this location in the map.
Ghost: We’re through! We’re OK!
Failsafe: Of course. The Cayde-6 is not far now!
NOTE: Follow the path on the left, and jump across the broken bridge.
Location: Well of Giants
Stick to the right. Jump to this ledge, then toward the triangular doorway.
Afterwards you reach a room with a large energy chute. Jump to its center to begin a long descent into the depths.
When you land, a new event starts.
NEW MISSION: Defend Cayde-6
Cayde-6: Hey! Over here! Get me out of here! What’s that? That a Hydra? OK, yeah, yeah — no, handle that first. Then me!
NOTE: This Hapax, the Convergent Mind boss has an immune shield that rotates counter-clockwise. Shoot it through the gap lacking a shield. Use the walls for cover. He will teleport every 10+ seconds to another location. Sometimes in the center of the room. You can use a Bazooka or any other heavy weaponry when the shield gap faces you. As Titan, the Bazooka takes 1/4 of his health per shot.
Cayde-6: Hey– you’re doing great! I think. Hey! Hey hey hey, don’t lead that thing near me!
NOTE: Around 75% or 50% a wave of minions spawn including Goblins and Minotaur. Watch for Hobgoblin (sniper).
Cayde-6: Keep it up! Unless you’re losing, then — DO BETTER!
Going uphill, there is a nice high-ground spot you can use to shoot Hapax, the Convergent Mind where you can take cover and shoot his head (while the Shield gap faces you).
Cayde-6: Hey, did you get it? Spinning around so much, I’m trying – oh – I’m trying not to throw up in here!
NOTE: Around 25% health, another wave of Goblins and Minotaur spawn. Use the walls for cover to take them one by one, and to dodge the boss’s shots.
Cayde-6: Good job! Now get over here before I disappear again!
Cayde-6: Quick! Hurry, come on! I don’t know how long this portal is going to stick.
Ghost: Cayde! What have you–?
Cayde-6: Stop-stop-stop-stop. Look-look– long story, and it may look like I don’t know what I’m doing, but I do – K, maybe not – doesn’t matter. Killing the power source at the origin point should break the loop and get me out of the portal system. Have you got that? Say you’ve got it. Say something!
Ghost: Fine, I’ll say it! We got it, Cayde. Now, how did you–
Cayde-6: Oh my cotton socks! Did you not hear what I just said?!
Ghost: I’m guessing this is why they don’t like him leaving the Tower.
