Destiny 2 Campaign (Part 1): Homecoming

Destiny 2 starts with a short 2D campaign cinematic intro (in the same cartoony-vibe as Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo III campaign cinematic), followed by a 3D-rendered cinematic showing the invasion of The Cabal. The Guardian arrives to Earth and finds The Last City under siege.

Animated Short: Homecoming

Ghost: I never knew you in life. Your first life, anyway. You died on a battlefield long before my time.

Something special brought us together. They called it “The Traveler.” And when it arrived… it changed your world forever.

It was a Golden A ge. And for centuries, humanity thrived… until it didn’t.

Ghost: An Ancient enemy pursued The Traveler across the universe. Humanity faced extinction. But The Traveler made a choice. Its sacrifice destroyed its ancient enemy… and brought life to the Ghosts. I am a Ghost. More importantly, I’m your Ghost. And you are one of The Traveler’s chosen. You… are a Guardian. This is your destiny.

Cayde: Ikora, if you tell me this is a practical joke… Well, it kills me to say it, but I – I would be really impressed.

Ikora: Impressing you, Cayde, is the easiest thing I’ll do all day.

Zavala: Let’s get serious people.

Cayde: Zavala! This is my serious face. Can’t you tell?

Zavala: Ikora, what have you got?

Ikora: Someone or something has sabotaged the Skyline Defense Systems.

Cayde: And comms have been spotty for the last few hours. Every sensor beyond the wall has gone dark.

Zavala: Hmm… maybe it is just the storm. Maybe it’s… What are the sat feeds telling us?

Ikora: Nothing.

Cayde: Well, that’s good, right?

Ikora: No! I mean, they’re not there. There are no satellites.

Cayde: And that’s not good.

Zavala: Battle stations! Everyone with me! Now!

Ikora: Hang on!

Ghost: Repeat, Tower Approach, this is City Hawk seven-two-three. Anyone home…? No response on any channels, even the emergency frequencies. (Sigh) What is going on back there? Remember when I told you that you fly too fast? Forget I said that. Fly fast.

Now is a good time to edit the video and keymapping settings. Personally, I am not a AWSD-player. I prefer the Arrow-keys. So I use my left-hand’s pinky finger to press R-SHIFT (Sprint) and R-CTRL (crouch). Then use the Numlock’s 1 for melee, and the 0 for jumping.

An essential tool to use always is the Ghost. It is the tiny robot that floats near you. When you need to find where to go, press TAB and it will mark the direction you need to go.

You begin at the Tower Control that was just destroyed by the Red Legion.

Ghost: This doesn’t make sense. The Cabal conquer systems by blowing up planets. Whatever they want, it must be here – in the Last City.

Zavala: This is Commander Zavala. Civilians: report to evac points. Guardians: rendezvous in the Plaza. Our City will not fall.

Cayde: Hey, you two! Give me a sec. Zavala’s doing the hero act in the Plaza. Me? I’ve got a date with whoever’s behind this. It’ll be a short date.

New Objective: Find Zavala

Shaxx: Over here, Titan! My armory is open to you. Follow the path from there. It will lead you through the Hangar to the Plaza. I’ll take care of these people. If the Cabal want war, give them war.

New Objective: Gear up for the fight.

NOTE: Approach the cache of weapons. Press (E) to interact with the cache of weapons to equip a new weapon.

NOTE: Reach the door and press (E) to Open the Door.

Location: Tower Hangar, The Last City (Earth)

Ghost: Look at the size of that thing. It must be their command ship.

Ghost: They are not just assaulting the City. Look at the Traveler!

NOTE: Press Tab to see your current objective marked onscreen as a white diamond. Jump to the top of the catwalk to the right of where you see the Traveler.

Cayde-6: OK. My Ghost keeps tagging these Cabal as “Red Legion.” Ikora, what do you got?

Ikora: They’re elite. Ruthless. And rumor is, they have never known defeat.

NOTE: Press (R-CTRL) to crouch, if you followed my advice to keymap it that way.

Zavala: Until today. Today, they face Guardians.

Ikora: But Zavala! They’re attacking the Traveler!

Zavala: The Traveler waits! We protect our people. At any cost.

Location: Tower Plaza, The Last City (Earth)

New Objective: Defend the Tower.
Assaults repelled: 0/3

NOTE: This area is phased to allow other players to join the event. Kill all enemies raiding the point. When Zavala casts a shield, take cover inside to be protected from the command ship’s missiles.

Zavala: These Red Legion are well trained. But we are better. We will hold this line until the last civilian is safely away. Incoming! Fall back to my shield! Don’t let them past the gate! The evac shuttles are back there!

Zavala: We hold here. That command ship – it’s next on my list. Missiles! Stay inside my shield! More Red Legion! Show them what Guardians are made of!

Ikora: Zavala, the last of the shuttles is away. But the Speaker – he never made it. I’m going to look for him.

Zavala: I’ve got the Plaza. Go with Ikora. Find the Speaker!

Ghost: We’re on it, Commander!

New Objective: Leave the Plaza and find the Speaker.

NOTE: Once the objective says Assaults repelled 3/3, Press (E) to find your destination. Head to the front-right and go upstairs into the building.

Ghost: Ikora!

Ikora: The Speaker is gone. Red Legion, you will take no more from us. And you will find no mercy in me!

TIP: The next room is some kind of market place. It is full of Red Legion Incendior. They look like StarCraft Firebats. Aim at the propane tanks on their back to make them explode to kill nearby enemies. In addition, press (1) in your Numpad (if you keymapped it that way) to melee in close range.

Zavala: Holliday is inbound. We need that ship off the field!

NOTE: The next room has a few Incendior, and a Honored Centurion (elite). You can optionally press (F) to use your Super ability. Unless you have a multi-button mouse and decided to keymap it there.

Holliday: Someone told me you need a ride.
