Destiny 2 Campaign (Part 5): Spark, Shard of the Traveler

After leaving the Farm, you are given a choice in the Director (pressing and holding TAB for 3 seconds). You travel near the Farm to Quarantine Sector 236, and enter an underground cavern leading you into the Blackened Forest. The mission is to find a way to the Shard of the Traveler.

Reaching the Shard of the Traveler, restores the connection between the Guardian and the Light, unlocking the Subclass talent tree.

Toward the end of the video, I get teleported back to the Farm where two new NPCs become unlocked: Tess Everis (Eververse Trading Co.) and Lord Shaxx (Crucible Handler).

Tess Everis sells Engram boxes at level 20. Engram is the equivalent of a Loot Box: “A vibrant engram containing many different customization options. Return it to Tess Everis to reveal its contents.” These can be purchased with 200 Silver.

The Bright Engram contains a small stack of shaders, armor mods, and vanity rewards.

Suraya Hawthorne: You sure you want to do this? That Shard is the reason this place is called a “Dead Zone.”

Ghost: We have to, Hawthorne. It’s a sign.

Suraya Hawthorne: Yea. A sign that says, “Dead Zone.”

NEW OBJECTIVE: Find a way to the Shard of the Traveler.

You start on a hill looking down on a City gate. Press (E) to let the Ghost point to the destination. You have to approach the gate. The hidden entrance is between the green car and the police booth. You will see a lightbulb marking the entrance. Then you have to crouch and move forward to reach the other side of the gate.

Hawthrone: You know, I’ve been all over the EDZ. Charming enough. I mean, nothing says “come visit” like a dark, haunted forest.

Ghost: But non-Guardians aren’t supposed to leave the City!

Hawthrone: Here’s the thing about City rules – they stop applying once you leave the City. There’s a small gap in the wall. Hard to see, but it’s there. Nobody goes further than that. At least nobody who wants to come back. Duck under the car. It’s a tight fit but you can slip through. At least I can. Then again, I don’t wear all that fancy armor.

A few yards in, there is a gap in the middle of the road. Jump across to the other side. You are heading into the bright tunnel across the road.

As you go down into a cavern, inside the caved-in tunnel, everything goes dark and your Guardian will automatically turn on a flashlight on his suit.

Hawthrone: Let me know when you’ve [static].

Ghost: Hawthorne? Hawthorne! Can you hear us? Signal’s dead.

NOTE: You will read onscreen “Hold [key] to switch to Power Weapon.” Expect some enemies soon. The next room is illuminated, and you have to jump down from a ledge.

Ghost: Did you hear something?

NOTE: All enemies in the room are cloaked. As soon as you approach the ledge on the other side, 5 cloaked Marauders (The Fallen) will come at you to melee.

Ghost: Those things were the Fallen – scavengers from another world. They worship machines.

Shortly after you enter the Blackened Forest, there is a house room with trees inside the house. The illumination is greenish. Stop here and press (E) for the loot chest on the ground.

To the left, go up the stairs to reach the cave’s exit leading to the outdoors.

NEW OBJECTIVE: Get to the Shard of the Traveler. Fight your way through the forest.

Ghost: The shard of the Traveler. This is it. Right out of our vision…

NOTE: From that catwalk view — to the right, jump down to low ground, then jump down from that platform. Press (E) for the Ghost to mark the destination.

You will come across a group of 6 Fallen dreg. Some of them throw grenades that leave the ground ablaze. Don’t step on those. Some throw a blue-stick in your direction. Move away from those — they are grenades that explode after 3 seconds.

There are six more dregs and marauders in the next plot near the crashed starship. Optional: You can climb the crashed ship to snipe them from above.

Press (E) to mark your destination. You will go uphill. Two dregs will shoot you from high-ground. Use a weapon with a scope to snipe them down. Going past the point they were shooting from, 9 dreg start charging at you.

At the end of the corridor, you make a U-turn and start descending a hill. 4 Dreg charge at you at the bottom of the hill. Then you come across a ledge where you have to jump down to low-ground. At this point you have a path to the left and another to the right. Go right — which leads you to the bed of the encrusted Shard of the Traveler. There you will find 4 dregs.

Moving further down, there are about 6-8 more and two elite mini-bosses: Maksor, Starving Scavenger; and Tikkis, Diminished Scrapper. Unsure if these names are random-generated for everyone, or static.

Ghost: I think we… scared them away. Take me to the shard.

(Screen goes black)

Ghost: This is why we were led here. I haven’t been this close to the Traveler’s Light since… Do you feel it? Hold onto your helmet. Do you feel it? The light is back! We’re back! Eyes up, Guardian.

NEW OBJECTIVE: Use the Light. Use your newly regained powers to lay waste to the Fallen.

Ghost: Time to shine.

NOTE: After walking onto the Light, you become super charged. Press (F) to use your Super ability (when needed). Right away dreg start coming out of the woods to shoot you. Over 10 of them.

A boss comes after a few waves of Fallen: Skriviks, the sharp-eyed. He has some kind of energy-cannon weapon. use the rocks to your advantage so that his blasts collide with the rocks, while you use the upper-area of the rocks to shoot his head.

LEVEL UP: 2 – Levels grant upgrade points and unlock new subclass abilities, gear, and missions. Press (F1) to open your character screen and spend your upgrade point.

GUARDIANS: New Cooperative Play and Crucible PvP available.

All activities, including Campaign, are now open for cooperative play. Use the roster to invite or join other Guardians. Speak to Lord Shaxx to battle other Guardians in player-versus-player competition in the Crucible.

A historian and Cryptarch, Tyra Karn decodes engrams and seeks the treasures of humanity’s past. Tyra is overjoyed by the return of your Light. She wishes you good luck in the battles to come.

Tyra: The dreams have changed. And now I know why! Truly, the Traveler has chosen you! Your Light shines brighter than ever. As a Guardian, my calling has always has always been as historian, not warrior. And I will ensure your great deeds will never be forgotten! I don’t need Light to record your deeds; for a while more, at least. Make no mistake, my friend, we are living through history. And the burden of legacy falls on you. We are the scattered people of a fallen city. You are our last and only hope. Be brave, Guardian.

Tess: What? You thought a bit of apocalypse would shut down Eververse? Not likely. We have two choices, here. Give up, give in – or stand up, brush off the dirt, and face whatever comes… with style. Even in the worst of times, if you look good, you feel good. And this place? … it could use a little glamour. So! What can Eververse do for you today?

We may have lost the battle, but Tess refuses to give up the war. Visit Tess to browse and purchase cosmetic items and rare goods.
